More than 700 invited guests celebrated Switzerland’s national day (traditionally held on August 1st) at the Swiss Residence. They enjoyed a vibrant performance by Swiss contemporary circus group Roikkuva, who combine their circus movements with theatre and dance. Guests also enjoyed Swiss delicacies such as raclette, sausages, ice cream and chocolate.
In his speech Ambassador Markus Leitner highlighted the Swiss value of neutrality which offers a successful platform from which to discuss the challenges of the globalized world, develop humanitarian law and negotiate important peace agreements. He also highlighted the facets of Switzerland’s long-standing cooperation with Egypt including Swiss projects to create job opportunities in the country and fund young entrepreneurs among others. He thanked the Swiss sponsors of the event including Lindt, Nestlé, Nespresso, Philip Morris and Swiss International Airlines.
