Mission Accomplished - Solar impulse 2

Today, Solar impulse 2 landed in Abu Dhabi international Airport successfully completing its round the world solar power flight without using a single drop of fuel.

The journey started March 9th 2015 and proceeded east bound through 17 stops.

Solar Impulse is not the first solar airplane, but it is the first to fly day and night, without any fuel, only using energy stored in its batteries. It is also the first to have crossed the world two largest oceans: 5 days and nights from Nagoya, Japan, to Kalaeloa, Hawaii over the Pacific Ocean; 3 days and 2 nights from Kalaeloa to San Francisco also over the Pacific Ocean; and 3 days and nights from New York to Seville, Spain over the Atlantic Ocean.

Other records are many including the longest duration of 117 hours and 52 minutes, however the goal was never achieving flying records but rather to prove that if an airplane can fly several days and nights in a row with no fuel, then clean technologies can be used on the ground to reduce our energy consumption, and create profit and jobs.

Cairo was the last stop before its final destination; Si2 reached the Giza plateau just in time for the sun rise of the 13th day of July and circled above the Pyramids for about one hour.

Si2 landed in Cairo International Airport where it was officially received by the Minister of Aviation and the Swiss Ambassador in Egypt, professionally received by its team and sponsors and cordially received by its fans and admirers and the people of Egypt.

The Si2 team stayed in Cairo for 10 days preparing for the final leg,
