The sugarcane stalks are growing longer now because they're getting enough water! Before the upgrade of the mesqa (irrigation channel), the feddan (0.42 hectares) produced 30-32 tons of sugarcane. Now it produces 40-45 tons," said Ramadan Gamal Ahmed, a member of the water users' association in Aswan’s Armena village.
The association is a partner entity of the Swiss Embassy’s Water Efficiency and Economic Support project in Nasr El Nuba and Kom Ombo that is helping build more efficient irrigation infrastructure in villages.
